The Butterfly

I did not write the following and its source is unknown:

    _The Butterfly_

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.

One day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force it's body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther..

So, the man decided to help the butterfly, he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily.

BUT, it had a swollen body, and small shriveled wings. He continued to watch the butterfly, because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of it's life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly.

What he had done in his well intentioned kindness and haste, he did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into it's wings so that it would be ready for flight ONCE it achieved it's freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If god allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us.

We would not be as strong as we could have been...... And we could never fly.......

Have a great day, great life, and struggle a little.... Then fly!

so Clyde, are you saying that no matter what your intentions, there is really no way of being certain, that your 'do no harm' is actually, doing no harm?

Star; No. I think the point of the story is that we should welcome our struggles as they lead us to our freedom.

why do we have to continue to look at them as 'struggles'? why can we not look at them as adventures instead?

continuing to look at them as struggles, keeps us from that freedom...

Star; You don't and I agree, we see them as 'struggles' until we see them as 'adventures'.

    Clyde,

Like grim said you are a 'helper', so thank you brother for the encouragement you afford others.

Things appear to happen to us ...

I dont see why do we HAVE to stick onto the 'idea' these appearances are an "ADVENTURE" either ...

    take care brother : )

fin; Your welcome and I agree, it's best to drop ideas of 'struggles' and 'adventures'.

    Be well.

Yes, let's replace it by "shit happens".
Each religion can have its own version.

    shin, lol

    clyde,

You know mate this resonated with me as I appeared to learn most through stuggling. Well it at least taught me how to not struggle. LOL. Is this perhaps why we have been trapped in the struggle for so long, so Conciousness could learn not to struggle? I don't know but I like the question.

Just wanted to add that this came to me when a couple of people who are very dear and close to me are going through some struggles at the moment. This thread reminded me of them so thanks.

    Be Well.

    Another presented this:

    The 4 No-Bull Truths

    1. Shit happens!
    2. being alive is why shit happens
    3. There is a cure for shit happening
    4. The cure for shit happening is
    ..........the 8-roads-to-shitlessness-highway

To which I added clyde’s commentary:

“The 8-roads-to-shitlessness-highway” can be summarized by “Don’t give a shit!”

    ( shit-eating :)

i've been contemplating this...and we are not butterflys, we are human...seems to me, that we will continue to struggle, until we don't...

we struggle against ourselves, imo...when we can look at our struggles as adventures, then it is easier...but that depends on our conditioning, how we look at things...and how we are looking at things would be the point...lol

while we are facing conditioning, it is not very pleasant...and conditioning has many, many layers...

i was reading this article on integration, and it stated that no matter what level of conscious evolution one may be at, other levels are still at play, and there are shadows to be contended with at all levels...(i am not talking about different levels of enlightenment, but normal levels of consciousness as it developes within mankind. (Beck and Graves research).

one thing i KNOW...we have to feel to heal and keep it real...our struggles or adventures help us to do this...it's just that struggles suck...till they don't...lol

There is a cure for puppy-poop--------a bath!
Had a friend who said "When you reach the very bottom...there's no other
    direction but up!"
We all go through out levels of difficulties. It might be loss of mates,
or children, or family members, might be loss of a job or a loss we didn't
want because it took us out of our comfort zone.
It might be loss of a loved one, by divorce, by death, by choice...but
still it hurts. It might be a loss of body parts, or loss of abilities.
Still we continue...it might be a loss of a home, but whatever we go through
    it humanizes us.
Whatever happens to anyone else also happens to us...even if we are not
going through it. We ARE THAT CONNECTED!!!
