Have been contemplated false idols in the modern world today. You know all the man made plastic & metal waste that we feel like we need to complete ourself.

    Any thoughts on this stuff?

Man made up the term "false idols". God of this universe knows this...
only the real thing can satisfy, all else simply serves temporarily.

That is an interesting thought but I do not know if I agree.

Sure the false idols have practical uses and I do not deny them but many get sucked into worshipping their car, their plasma screen, their new boat, etc, instead of marvelling at the true magic of creation, that which is not man made.

I think in a way the problem lies in the fact that what is man made has been forgotten that it was gifted through creation.

It serves temporarily as _substitute_ gratification, which means it does not really serve at all. It is a sham, but that is what one would expect from someting which is "false", isn't it?

See how this links up with other 'false idols' such as the so-called experts in whatever. We have disempowered ourselves by giving them power, sometimes we even _demand_ that they take our power away by calling for regulation on this and that.
As an example, when you need a license at great expense to give Reiki to your neighbour charging him a couple of dollars because you consider your time to be valuable, then our power is gone!

In the end, and that is clearly the aim of most institutions, we are left with substitutes only!

Empowering words! As i read your statements... falseness was being washed away and retreating... letting the light of truth shine. Very cool!

    shin,

    Indeed.

So how does one weed out, identify, stop empowering the false idols in their life?

    A little housecleaning????????

Sure, that may help. What does this achieve though? Where does the dust go? Does the cleaning just make space for new dust to settle?

Is it the yanking of the chain and the being yanked that creates the false idols? Doesn't this imply a giver and receiver of power.

    Who/what do you/I give/receive power to/from?

It means a reorientation from external to internal. A change of attitude which does not see the external, the world or worldly things as an end in itself but as something that can reveal something inner.
Roger Jahnke says the fundamentals of Qigong is to be found in these words "Mind the body and the breath, and then clear the mind to distill the Heavenly elixir within."

In order to do that one begins with the 3 Intentful Corrections, also called the 3 adjustement, the 3 regulations, the 3 focal points. These are bodily posture, correct breath, and correct mental focus. All 3 work together, most people cannot have proper posture without correct focus, nor is correct breath possible without proper posture.

When one is mindful of these 3 intentful corrections it is not possible to relate to the world, or be in the world in the same way as before.

In times past, the hearth and the dinner table were in the center of family life, and the place where families passed on most traditions and rituals. Now, microwave convenience meals in front of the TV. Convenience has become the new "false idol", and the television has become he new "family hearth".

    shin,

I always appreciate your calls towards Qigong as a beautiful and extremely accurate "psychic healer" told me that a form of gentle martial arts was a cornerstone to freeing myself of the karmic cycle. As it stands affordability is most often the hindrance towards attending classes.

Having practised yoga for long periods in the past though I definately see the benefits of the 3 corrections you speak of. Currently I swim which has a similar effect, although posture is not as focal.

    yas,

The ol TV dinner mentality eh. lol We tend to eat together as family these days and I must say it is great.

In considering this thread of late it also occured to me that at times I am as big a false idol as anything unto "my" self.
