I a book by Mantak Chia "Wisdom Chi Kung" I found this simple statement,

"Many meditations do not produce healing energy"

supported by research done at some German University in collaboration with Chia. The reason given is that most meditations focus on the head-brain and leave out completley what he call the gut-brain.

He maintains that the Taoist Inner Ssmile meditation allows the earth energy to travel from the lower Dantien up the central Tai Chi channel to the upper Dantien, connecting heaven and earth and access or release huge energy reserves.

Using the Taoist Inner Smile meditation, done by Chia, had a significant effect on the level of brain energy, rising from 60 units to 6000 units, a level the researchers said was impossible to contain. (Note that Chia has practiced this for decades).

Meditation techniques are many and varied. Thanks to modern technology like the Internet, we able to learn about hundreds of different types in a very short time.

Sometimes this leaves us confused about which one is the best. Well, all meditation techniques are good, but are they all good for you? Only ‘you’ can answer the question, “which one is best for me”.

As I see it Chia's ideas are not about which one best amongst many near equals. His argument seems to be that most of them don't work at all!
Listening to many long-term meditators who candidly admit that meditating for 10, 20, 30 years hasn't really made much difference in theory life he may have a point.

Anyway, I used a short version of the Inner Smile meditation in some workshops and the comments afterwards were all very positive.
